Message – In Matthew 22 Christ has His greatest recorded debate with the Herodians, the Sadducees and the Pharisees, The Herodians made money the central question; Is it lawful to pay tribute to Caesar? Christ answered them by referring to a simple coin. If it has Caesar’s image it belongs to Caesar – we bare God’s image, and the implication is clear – we should render ourselves to God. The Sadducees made reason central, so they tried to make the truth of the resurrection look foolish by projecting the relationships of time into eternity. Jesus told them to go to the Scriptures. The Pharisees made precepts the central question; What is the greatest commandment in the law? And Jesus went right to the heart with “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind and Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” After answering all three, Christ made Himself the central question; What think ye of Christ? In the final hour that is the only question that will matter, and it will determine your eternal destiny.

Message – Jesus made one of those startling statements in John’s gospel chapter six where He said, I am the bread of life, he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. John 6:35 Think of that. Jesus was not talking about heaven or the after life, but right now.

I remember years ago standing before a large group made up of several inner-city gangs from three large cities and reading that verse. Down deep inside each of them was experiencing raging hunger and a burning thirst, which they were trying to quench with drugs and sex and violence.

Somehow, the Holy Spirit opened ears that were deaf and hearts that were cold that night, and gang leaders and their followers tasted the Bread and water of life for the first time. Listen again to that promise, I am the bread of life, he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. Have you come? Have you believed?

Message – A few years ago, our good friend George Eager wrote a little book called, Who Is Jesus Christ? We have printed millions of them because people all over the world want to know the answer to that question. No matter the country or the predominant religion, people gladly receive that book and read it.

The writer of the book of Hebrews in the New Testament takes up the challenge of that question and answers it in these words; Who is Jesus Christ? The One God hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high. Hebrew 1:3

That is who Jesus Christ is, and that is what He has done. He purged your sins as well my friend – but is only becomes yours when you believe and trust Him.

Message – In a world that calls evil good, and good evil; that puts darkness for light, and light for darkness; Truth becomes a scarce commodity. There is not much of it to be found in the arena of public discourse. But the young man David found the solution when he declared in Psalm 119:30, I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me.

That is the key to finding Truth – it is only found when we “choose the way of truth,” and that Truth is found only in God’s judgments – God’s Word. David declared that he had, laid God’s judgments before him. The word Judgments is Mishpawt; properly a verdict or formal decree. In the context, David had determined to call good what God Judicially pronounced good, and call evil what God decreed to be evil, and in doing so he had chosen the way of Truth. So ask yourself, Have I chosen the way of truth? Do I judge what is good and what is evil by God’s decrees? Something to think about.

Message – Last week we were looking at David’s cry in Psalm 119:9. Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? We saw that his answer was taking heed to the Word of God. In other words, by obeying God’s word.

But before we can obey God’s Word, we have to know God’s Word.  And, that is the reason why David’s commitment found in verse 11 of the same Psalm is so crucial – Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Cleansing comes through the Word of God, but that Word must be in our hearts, and it only gets there are we read it and study it. That is the reason we at SLM International have dedicated our lives to providing the tools so that you can study, and learn, and live the Word of God.

Message – Young King David asks a very penetrating question in Psalm 119:9. He asks,
Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? It is a question I remember asking many years ago when I was living in sin and far from God. I had learned that part of the Bible verse somehow, but did not know the answer. Night after night I would stand on the hillside overlooking the valley where I lived and cry, how can I be clean – Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way?

One day, by God’s grace, I learned the rest of the verse. It says, by taking heed thereto according to thy word. And how did David apply that exhortation to “take heed”? He says, With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. Psalm 119:10

I learned that same lesson and God’s Word brought a much needed transformation in my life. Have you ever ask, How can I be clean again? The answer is in taking heed to God’s eternal Word.

Message – Last week we asked the question, How important is the Bible, the Word of God to you?

In His great high priestly prayer in John 17, Jesus prayed, Sanctify them through thy truth, Thy Word is Truth.” There are two things we can observe in that statement. First, Jesus declared God’s Word, the Bible THE TRUTH. So how valuable is that?

The cynical Pilate had given up on truth when he despairingly remarked, “What is truth?” No, Truth is not easy to find in this world, but Jesus declares that His Word is the Truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

The second thing we see in this passage is the effect the Word can have upon us. Jesus prayed, “Sanctify them through thy truth.” Set them apart – purify them. In a world filled with contamination, how good it is to be purified. But the way that happens is through God’s truth found in God’s Word. How much time have you spent in the Truth today?

Message – Why read and study the Bible? What can the Bible do for you? Well, the Apostle Peter addresses that question in 1 Peter 1:23-25. when speaking to Christians he says, Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you. (1 Peter 1:23 – 25)

God’s Word, the Bible, is the only thing in this life that will last forever – it will endure when the world as we know it has passed away. And it is the means by which God brings us to the new birth without which Jesus said, we would never see the Kingdom of God…. So, how important have you made the Word of God in your life?
