Message

Carl Sagan, has repeatedly said, “The Cosmos is all that there is. It is all that there ever was and all there ever will be.” I want to think about the statement for a moment, If the Cosmos is all that has ever been and all that ever will be, that would mean that the Cosmos is eternal.

Now that is not a very scientific statement coming from a brilliant man of Carl Sagan’s stature. In the first place, it mirrors the ancient Hindu philosophies and it contradicts the scientific law of entropy increase.

A far more scientific statement and one which agrees with all observable scientific data would be this; In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Now that fits the facts and satisfies the heart.

But I’m afraid that is the problem for our friends who believe in the myth of evolution, and can believe in intrically designed life emerging magically from non-life and without a Designer – you see, you either have to believe in eternal matter, or an Eternal God, and believing in God leaves you vulnerable to having to face Him – maybe that’s why they only believe in the Cosmos.

Message

There is a word for the New Year found in the book of Revelation chapter 21. It reads; And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. (vs. 5a)

All things new – isn’t that what each of us would like to see – each of us need to see? Well, the time is coming when those who belong to Jesus will actually see it. He says to John in the same verse, Write this down; for these words are true and faithful.

And what are these things that will be made new? Listen to verses 3, 4: And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Consider that – the former things gone forever.

But when God makes all things new, He always begins with us personally. Paul writes, Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (2 Cor. 5:17).

So, as we enter a New Year, if you have not yet been made new, why not let it happen today. Verse six of this same passage says, I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. Come receive that gift of forgiveness and eternal life, and experience being made new in your own life today.

Message

Another Christmas is past and we are caught in that interesting week between the holidays – Christmas behind us, and the New Year before us. It is a time of year that many people find depressing – particularly if you happen to be one of those people who palpitate over what’s ahead and what the future holds. There is a word in the book of Isaiah for you. It reads,

Have you not known? have you not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, does not faint, neither is weary? and there is no searching of his understanding. He gives power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increases strength. Even the young ones shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. (Isaiah 40:28 – 31).

As the old hymn reminds us; “He’s got the whole world in His hands.” And the future is a bright as the promises of God.

Message

Reading again from Philippians 2:5-8

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the exact form of God, did not think it something to be grasped to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

When you hear those words, I hope you understand that He did that for you and me – yes our sin ( yours and mine) is that bad that it took nothing less than His death on the cross to satisfy the justice of God. But God so loved the world, that he gave His one and only Son, that who ever will believe in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. Do you have that everlasting life? This is a wonderful time to receive not only God’s forgiveness, but the real Joy of Christmas as well – it is called CHRIST mas you know because Christ came. Let Him come into your life today.

Message

December has come and this is the month we celebrate – not the mythical figure called Santa Claus — but the historic birth of the Son of God Himself, Jesus Christ. You recognize, of course, that you acknowledge that fact every time you place a date on a document or a letter. This is 2016 AD, which stand for Anno Domino, Latin for the “Year of our Lord 2016”. It is meant to acknowledge that we are now 2016 years from the miraculous birth of Jesus Christ. So even those who do not wish to honor Him, do so every day.

But that is not the last time they will pay Him Homage. In Philippians 2 we read:

God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Bottom line is, you can fall at His feet now in repentance and faith and go away cleansed and forgiven, or you can fall at His feet in the future when He will be your judge. It’s really up to you.

Message

As I sat down to prepare for this brief message, I could not help note that it would go public on December 7th. I’m of that generation to can still remember Pearl Harbor. Actually, I can remember laying on the couch in our living room as a 7 year old boy and hearing the news of the attack. I can remember our President say, “Yesterday, December 7, 1941—a date which will live in infamy—the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.”

There is another thing I remember about that day. When the Japanese planes attacked our base, the man who led that attack was a young Japanese officer by the name of Mitsuo Fuchida. It was his voice that echoed over the radio to his bomber squadron, Toro, Toro, Toro – Attack, Attack, Attack.

The reason I know that is that years later, when the war was over, Mitsuo Fuchida was given a gospel pamphlet as he walked the streets of Tokyo. It was one written by Jacob DeShazer, a former prisoner of the Japanese who had suffered terribly under their cruelty. But Deshazer had found forgiveness in Christ for himself and his enemies and Jake DeShazer’s testimony moved the heart of Mitsuo Fuchida. The man who once attacked us, became a fervent follower of Jesus Christ and a warm friend to America.

And that is still the power of the Gospel. It can replace bitterness with forgiveness and turn enemies into fondest friends. If you have never experienced that power, why not celebrate this date but asking Christ to forgive and change your life as well. He really will.

Message

We have just celebrated the Feast of Harvest – we call it Thanksgiving. It comes at the end of the harvest season when everything is gathered in. In Scripture, it became a symbol of those who are gathered in under God’s Grace – those who are “saved.”

So have you been “gathered in?” Are you a part of that company that will soon hear the trumpet call saying come up hither and be caught up to meet the Lord in the air? I hope that you are because the Bible’s picture of what follows in terrifying indeed.

If you are not sure about your eternal destiny, make certain today. Listen to His promise, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved, or as the Amplified New Testament puts it, “Believe in and on the Lord Jesus Christ, that is, take yourself out of your own keeping and put yourself in His keeping, and you will be saved.” Why not do it today.

Message

This is the week set aside for national thanksgiving (or have we forgotten what this holiday was all about)? Its not taught in public schools anymore — Has too much of a religious context. So schools now call it “Turkey Day,” how inspiring! And the majority of this nations youth have no real idea what happened on that first Thanksgiving or what this holiday is all about. And that is the problem with historic revisionism – we don’t know our past, so we don’t know who we are.

There is a most telling story recorded in Luke 17 that should challenge us at this season. As Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem, and to His own death, He passed near a village where he found 10 lepers. He healed them and we read:

And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks:.

And Jesus said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole. (Luke 17:11 – 19)

Please notice; one thankful person got a special blessing – he was made completely whole. There is a special blessing for those who are genuinely thankful – I trust you and I will find it Thanksgiving Day.

Message

It is the third week of November and very shortly congregations will be gathered together singing, ‘Come Ye Thankful People Come’. The question is, are we a thankful people? Not by my observation.

When the Apostle Paul wrote the indictment against the world of his day, he wrote, “Because that when they knew God, they glorified Him not as God, neither were thankful.”

The consequences of thanklessness, just within the individual human life itself are staggering. Pride, Selfishness, Dissatisfaction, Bitterness, Anger, Rebellion, and the list goes on and on. The consequences to society as a whole are even more severe. Paul goes on to recite them in these words, “They became vane in their imaginations and their foolish hearts where darkened”. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools. Which sounds like an apt description of our present society.

Most of us have enjoyed more than our share of the blessings and abundance of God. Above all, He has given us the promise of eternal life through His Son Jesus Christ. I believe it is time to be Thankful.

Message

By the time you hear this message, the American presidential election will be over and will be history. If the nation has determined to stay the present course, the future for freedom, especially religious freedom looks dark indeed. And if we voted to change course, then we need to heed the words of a great old saint who said; “walk softly – speak tenderly, pray ferveantly and don’t run up the stairs”.

Whatever happens during the election, God has not changed, and the future is still as bright as the promises he has given us. The challenge to preach the Gospel unto the entire world is still upon us, and in many places in the world, the world is listening.

I just returned from Ethiopia, where I had the joy of doing the training for a new Bible College. Evangelical churches there are growing at an unprecedented pace. A church of 12 members 4 years ago is now over 500. People from ethnic and religious groups thought unreachable only a few years ago are begging for Bibles. Like the early church, believers are forsaking all to follow Christ.

But whatever the political situation is in this country, the Apostle’s word still stands; “Be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, for as much as you know that your labor is not in vain, in the Lord”.
