Message

There is very little this world seems to agree upon, but there is one very frightening trend that is now taking hold literally all over the globe. It is a passionate hatred of Christianity.

In many parts of the Middle East, Africa and Asia, believers are relentlessly attacked by extremists, churches are being destroyed, and laws are being passed to try to prevent the spread of the Christian faith. Anti conversion laws in India, Blasphemy Laws in countries under Sharia. In some areas, the violence has become so extreme that Christians knowingly risk their own lives just to go to church.

Sadly, this is just the beginning. In the years ahead, those that choose to be followers of Jesus Christ will face even greater persecution than we have seen already. We need to remember the words of our Lord Jesus:
If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me. (John 15:18 – 21)

Message

Here is a definition for you, “a strong belief in a falsehood or illusion – a condition of departure from reality – to believe a lie.” What does the definition define? The word Delusion. Listen to this somber prediction found in 2 Thessalonians, regarding the world Leader the Bible predicts is coming;
His coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 2 Thess.2:9 – 12.

We are already seeing something of that delusion all around us. So how can we escape? The text here is clear, do what these who are referred to did not do, receive the love of the truth so that you can be saved. And what is that truth? God come in the flesh took the penalty for your sins on Himself and paid that penalty in full and today He offers you full and complete forgiveness and eternal life if you will only call upon His name. The choice is Delusion leading to eternal death or Deliverance leading to eternal Delight.

Message

One of the characteristics of end of this age will, according to Scripture be a tendency to prefer fairy tales over the solid truth of the Word of God. The Apostle says it like this,
The time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. (2 Timothy 4:3, 4). The word translated fables is muthos and it means a fiction or a story that is divorced from the Truth.

Now if you doubt that we have arrived at that juncture, consider this: We now believe we can determine our own gender (we have that choice) change our age, and even our species and all such self-defined identities must be enshrined in anti-discrimination law. If the situation were not so tragic it would be hilarious. So how did we reach this stage? Paul tells us in Romans 1 where he writes, Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools. (Romans 1:21, 22).

If we are ever to escape this state of folly and foolishness, we must return to the Word of God. Jesus said, Sanctify them through Thy Truth – Thy Word is Truth.

Message – Psalm 119

Last week we were talking about the insanity that is all around us. The rejection of God’s eternal truth has led us down this path. Why do I say that?

When a girl in nursery school fantasies that she is a boy and a 59 year old man believes himself to be a six year old girl, and the law affirms and confirms their fantasy that is insanity. It reminds me of the conversation Alice had with the Queen in the book Alice in Wonderland. “You can’t believe impossible things” affirmed Alice. Of course you can, replied the queen. Take a deep breath, and close your eyes, why I often believe as many as 6 impossible things before breakfast.” Apparently we are presently blessed with legislators and judges who are closely related to the Queen.

In contrast, how refreshing is God’s Word. The Psalmist writes,
The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.  Psalm 19:7-11

Message – Psalm 119

This world is filled with a lot of insanity. We have learned people in high places who believe that this ordered universe came about by a random accident, that highly organized creatures came about by chance and that life sprang somehow spontaneously from non-life. That’s only one example of the insanity around us, but why do I call it insanity?

Well, the definition of Truth is that which conforms to reality, that which was or is or shall be. There is nothing about such ideas, regardless of how popular they may be, that conforms to reality and when a person slips from reality and lives in a world of illusion, we call that insanity.

Thankfully, there is an antidote for insanity – Jesus said, Thy Word is Truth. God’s Word always conforms to reality and is certain. David said, I have more understanding than all my teachers, for thy testimonies are my meditation (Ps. 119:99). God’s Word is the way out of insanity for this generation just as it has been for all generations past.

Message – Psalm 119

We have been looking at Psalm 119.  In verse 105, David writes, Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.  Maybe I speaking to someone today and you are not sure which way to go – the way ahead seems filled with darkness and in darkness there is always the threat of danger.  In reality you have two choices.

In Isaiah chapter 50, verse 11 God says, Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that ye have kindled. This shall ye have of mine hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow.

What is God saying?  You can walk in your own light if you want – maybe you have been doing that – but it will lead to sorrow.  But if you will allow God’s Word to guide you, it will be a light before you on your path.  God says, The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple. (Psa. 119:130)  Why not try God’s way for a change?  Open His Word, let Him speak to you, listen to what He says, and determine that you will obey.  I guarantee you, your path will be light with his Word as your guide.

Message
The Psalmist David was persecuted by by men of rank and authority who ridiculed his beliefs and sought to put him to shame, and make him give up his faith. But he strengthened himself by meditating on the Word of God. God’s Word was his comfort, his prize possession, his rule of life, his resource and strength. So in the 119th Psalm, he writes about the Word of God. It is written as an alphabetical acrostic, each paragraph has eight verses and each line begins with the same letter in the Hebrew alphabet. In it God’s Word is referred to by 10 synonyms; it’s called the law, the word, the sane or promise, commandments, statutes, judgement, precepts, testimonies, way and path.
In brief, the Word of God contains all that the believer needs to be healthy and strong in a world in which we are to shine as lights. But the only way for it to bring health and strength to you – is for you to know it. So let me ask; “How much progress are you making?”

Message – Psalm 119

The second paragraph of Psalm 119 begins with these words, Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to thy word. That verse is very meaningful to me.

I was raised in church and I had memorized a number of verses – some of them just by hearing them read. But I was living far from God. And as a 16 year old boy my life had begun to crumble around me. I vividly remember the night I was walking home from a party – my home lay in a valley and I had to go down a very steep hill, where all the valley lay before me. As I stood an smoked my last cigarette I looked up at the star-filled heavens and thought of one of those verses, Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; Psalm 24:3, 4. I could feel a shudder go over me because I knew I did not have cleans hands, and I most certainly did not have a clean heart. And then this verse from Psalm 119 hit me, Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? But that is all of the verse I knew and I asked that question over and over, until a few months later when God graciously drew me to Himself and I learned it was By taking heed thereto according to thy word.

Message – 1 Peter 5:10, 11
All the way through his first epistle, Peter has been speaking encouragement to suffering believers. Now as he closes his letter he prays a prayer for them. Perhaps it is the prayer we all should be praying for that part of the church that is suffering right now more than most of us can imagine. And before I read Peter’s prayer, let me ask you, have you been praying daily for your suffering brothers and sisters? While you are listening, some of them are dying. So Peter prays this prayer: Now the God of all grace, (enough grace to endure whatever we are going through) who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while (not forever), make you perfect (literally “restore you”), stablish (make you resolute) strengthen (a word that speaks especially of spiritual strength), settle you (that is lay a firm base under your feet). Note, Peter does not pray that they might be removed from the suffering, only that in it, they will prevail, and then he closes with the words To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. Whatever we may suffer, God is in control, He will get glory to Himself as we prevail, and He will one day assume His dominion forever and ever. That ought to encourage us no matter what we may suffer. Amen.

Message – 1 Peter 5:8, 9
Peter has been talking about suffering, but there is something that is a greater threat than suffering. In chapter 5 Peter says,
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Peter reminds us that our real enemy is not the one who is persecuting us, but the evil spirit that drives his actions, the devil himself. And yes he is real, and yes he is always attempting whether through pleasure or through pain to cause our faith to fail and our hope to waver. But Peter tells this suffering church there is the possibility of victory. He says, Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. or as one translation reads, You know that all over the world the Lord’s followers are suffering just as you are. You are not alone dear Christian. So be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, and you will defeat the plans the Evil one has for you.
