Message

It may come as rather startling news to some, but God’s primary teaching instrument throughout this age is intended to be the local church. The local church received a biblical mandate to teach all of its people, all of the Word of God. Biblically trained, faithful men were instructed to be teachers of others who would in turn teach still others until the entire Church is thoroughly instructed in the Word.

The mandate of the apostles still stands, “The things which thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou unto faithful men who shall be able to teach others also” (2 Timothy 2:2). It was entirely obvious in the early church that the teaching elders of each local assembly had that task as their personal and particular responsibility.

Not only is the local church the primary teaching agent under God’s program, but it is obviously the most practical one as well. The local church is immediate to the life of its people. A man does not have to leave home and family or even his job and travel long distances, spending large sums of money in order to be trained to serve God. The local church is equipped to handle all of that right on the local level.

WWBI is a complete curriculum of Biblically-sound, educationally-adequate and spiritually-oriented training materials which can enable every local church to train its own leadership to accomplish God’s plan and purpose in terms of knowing the Scriptures and applying them to life’s situations.

Many Christian leaders are coming to the conclusion that the lack of prepared leadership, the dearth of Bible knowledge, the missing motivation to service, evident in the church today, must be overcome by returning to apostolic methods of education . . .and what where those?

The local Church simply trained its own leadership for service right within the church itself. The Church was trained by the apostles and those who followed continued the process within the local assembly. Scripture records, “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship…” (Acts 2:42)

Paul wrote to Timothy, “And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also” (2 Timothy 2:2)

The fact that the apostolic Church trained its people for the work of the ministry in and through the local assembly, accounts for the strength, durability and expansion of the local churches of the Apostolic era. It is the firm conviction of the leaders associated with the World-Wide Bible Institutes that God is calling the churches back to historic first-century methods of training believers.

2 Timothy 2:1, 2 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard from me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. That exhortation has been a guiding force in the formation of WWBI.

Dr. Gerald Stover who served as Dean of Curriculum for WWBI wrote, “It may not present an encouraging picture to the student of the times, but it must be candidly observed that quite often the leadership produced by Christian educational institutions, reveals a dreadful lack of Bible knowledge.” With the emphasis upon accreditation and with a corresponding reduction of Biblical content in curriculum, the picture becomes clear.

He then sites a Christian Educator who boasted that every student in his college received sixteen hours of Bible in his four years of study. That is 16 hours out of 128 hours required for graduation. Obviously, the greater portion of time is spent on those general education subjects which are demanded by the accrediting organizations. So Graduates pour forth, enter into our pulpits, or embark for the mission fields, ill-prepared to expound the Word of God.

In contrast to that did you know that WWBI provides 136 credit units of study almost all of which are spent in studying the Word of God itself. Perhaps that’s something you or your church should think about?

I want to look a little further today into the Faithfulness, truthfulness, certainty, and reliability of the Word of God. In our last time together we looked at the phrase, “This is a Faithful saying” a phrase Paul uses frequently to enforce the absolute trustworthiness of what he is about to say. We looked last at 1 Timothy 1:15. where Paul writes, This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom, I (Paul says) am chief.

The word “Faithful” comes from the Greek word pistos and means that which is objectively certain and trustworthy. It comes from the root pistis meaning; persuasion, that is, credence; moral conviction of truth, or the truthfulness of God and especially reliance upon Christ for salvation; and upon the Gospel as truth itself: – and is sometimes translated assurance, believe, faith, fidelity.

Actually there are three more words that are closely related each giving us a slight nuance of difference but each meaning something objective, certain, and true. That is what the gospel and the entire Christian message is all about. It is not a truth that springs from only from a person conviction or opinion, as in “what is true to me but may not be true to you.” This a Truth that transcends all time and that defines reality both here and hereafter. This is truth you will confront and deal with either here or at the Great White Judgment Throne of God. So let me read it once again: This is a faithful saying, and worthy of being accepted by every person, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. Will you believe that and ask Him to save you right now?

There is an interesting phrase found frequently in the epistles of Paul – Paul will say, This is a faithful saying – then he will recite some truth that can strengthen the heart of anyone who counts that truth faithful enough to believe it and to rest his destiny upon it. One such instance is found in 1 Timothy 1:15. Paul writes, This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I (Paul says), am chief.

Last week we discussed briefly that statement found in Romans 3:23, For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. I said at the time, I didn’t much like that statement, but my conscience (as well as my experience) testifies to me that it is true. And what is worse, Scripture goes on to say in Romans 6:23, that, The wages of sin (that is the penalty sin earns) is death – not just physical death but eternal separation from God in a place the Bible calls Hell. But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. That is very good news! God is alive, He will require a penalty for sin, and there is a judgment coming, but He has provided a way to escape.

If I can accept the truth that I am a sinner, and under the judgment of God, then that “Faithful Saying” should give me great comfort. Listen to it again, This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. If that is so, and if you are a sinner, then He came to save you. Why not trust Him to do that right now and tell Him, Lord Jesus, I thank you that you came into the world for the purpose of saving sinners. I am one of those sinners you came to save and I trust you to save me right now. Amen.

Intro – Here is Bill Shade with today’s “Moment from God’s Word”.

Message

What is sin? That is both a strange and unwelcome question in a culture that evaluates truth in terms of what feels good or right to the individual. To insist, in such an environment that there is something called an absolute moral standard can get you sidelined, or expelled or even fired (as it has a growing list of honest people over the last year).

But resistance to truth or opposition to truth does nothing to change the truth. Paul reminds us that we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth. And the truth is that all of us are part of a broken race, the race of Adam. The Bible says, For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. I may not like that statement, but my conscience tells me it is true – I am indeed the sinner the Bible is talking about.

But if I am that sinner, then I am also the one for whom God provided a remedy in His Son Jesus Christ. Scripture says of Him, But this man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sin, forever, sat down on the right hand of God. That “one sacrifice for sin forever was all that was forever needed, and I can claim it as the payment for my sin by a simple act of believing faith. You can too – why not do it now?

Message

How much does a college education cost these days? While the answer may be a broad range of figures, the simple answer is, “too much!” It is obviously too much when the average college graduate has an unpaid student debt of more than $12,000.00, and many, many have much more. Unless the college graduate can find immediate employment or placement in a very steady company with a very lucrative salary, he or she will spend much of the rest of their lives in debt to the educational institution from with they graduated. And what did they get for all of that investment of time and money?

Last week I told you about the interview conducted on the campus of Washington State University where students found it impossible to tell a 5’9″ white male, that he was not a 6’7″ Chinese woman. An education that leaves you that confused is hardly worth a lifetime of debt.

Remember what David said, “I have more understanding than all my teachers, for thy testimonies are my meditation” (Ps. 119:99). God’s Word is the way out of the twilight zone of moral and intellectual insanity for this generation just as it has been for all generations past. And World Wide Bible Institutes puts it within easy reach for anyone who wants to pursue it.

The purpose for a college education was at one time to gain the skills to be able to think critically – to discern – to distinguish right from wrong, good from bad, and truth from error. So how is that working?

Family Policy Institute of Washington State, recently conducted an interview of students on the Washington University campus. The person conducting the interview was Joseph Bacholm and he interviewed about seven or eight students on a variety of questions related to Identity and how we determine it. Now Joseph is a white Caucasian male about 5’9″ tall. He ask those students how they would respond if he said that he was a woman – then a Chinese woman – then a 6’7″ tall Chinese woman. In each case the students affirmed his claim with statements like, “Be who you think you are,” and “If you believe it then that’s who you are.” Not one of the students challenged his claim with a clear denial.

Now as Joseph points out toward the end of the interview, “It shouldn’t be too hard to tell a 5’9″ white male that he is not a 6’7″ Chinese woman, but apparently it is. And if our students can’t answer that question with certainty, what does that say about answering the really hard questions in life?”

God said of the people of Nineveh, “In that great city, there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left.” Apparently our college campuses have a lot in common with Nineveh. When a culture forsakes the absolute Truth of the Word of God, it slips inevitably into the twilight zone of moral and intellectual insanity.

Here in North America and Europe, persecution may be subtle but it is nonetheless real. Even though violent attacks are rare, Christian beliefs are being undermined by new laws, comedians and television shows regularly mock the Christian faith, and many employers will immediately disqualify a potential candidate for a job if they discover that an individual is a Bible-believing Christian, and more than one college student has been refused admittance because of his or her Christian faith.

The Scriptures exhort us; Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:11, 12.

There has never been a time in history when the believer has had a greater need to know what God has said, than right now. Let us help you Study to show yourself approved unto God. . . rightly dividing the Word of Truth.

I’m looking at some headlines: Fire Chief is fired for expressing opposition to homosexual lifestyle. Here’s another, Street preachers brutally beaten at a gay pride festival in Seattle. (So much for “free Speech”). Another: Christian student at University is removed as Student Council President after expressing opposition to gay marriage on her personal Facebook page. One student responded to the harassment in these words; “Christ in my life comes before all political positions or political thoughts, so I definitely won’t be retracting what I said.”

Jesus said, These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)

In today’s environment believers desperately need to know the Word of God and be able to defend themselves with it. That is why WWBI online exists. I hope we can help and strengthen you.
