Intro – Here is Bill Shade with today’s “Moment from God’s Word”.
Still talking about the Bible this week. In our last session I told you about my friend who offered to prove the Bible was what it claimed to be by comparing it to a bottle of Iodine. The label reads Iodine, and the Bible is called the Word of God. If we can readily accept one, why not the other? But to prove that bottle of iodine is the real thing, he put it to the test and found it looked and smelled and healed like iodine. Then he demonstrated how the Bible does what it claims to do. It changes lives. As Chuck Colson said, “Fragments of the Bible smuggled into solitary prison cells have transformed ruthless killers into gentle saints.”
But I said last time, there was one final evidence. When the students said they were still not sure, my friend referred them again to the bottle of iodine. Suppose you are still not convinced it’s iodine, how could you be sure? He asked. The challenger said he didn’t know so my friend said simply, “Drink it.” Drink it, said the student, you’re crazy man it’s poison. OK said my friend, but if you drink it and you don’t die, you’ll know it wasn’t iodine. The young man said, I’m not sure I want to find out that bad – but what’s that have to do with the Bible?
Well, my friend concluded, this Book says that anyone who receives Christ, has eternal life, and anyone who does not receive Christ, does not have that life but God’s wrath is still upon him. So if you still aren’t sure it’s the Word of God, ignore it, and when you wake up in hell, you’ll know for sure it was the Word of God.” There is a better way to find out. I hope you take it.
