Intro – Here is Bill Shade with today’s “Moment from God’s Word”.
Message – 1 Peter 5:8, 9
Peter has been talking about suffering, but there is something that is a greater threat than suffering. In chapter 5 Peter says, Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Peter reminds us that our real enemy is not the one who is persecuting us, but the evil spirit that drives his actions, the devil himself. And yes he is real, and yes he is always attempting whether through pleasure or through pain to cause our faith to fail and our hope to waver. But Peter tells this suffering church there is the possibility of victory. He says, Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. or as one translation reads, You know that all over the world the Lord’s followers are suffering just as you are. You are not alone dear Christian. So be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, and you will defeat the plans the Evil one has for you.
