Intro – Here is Bill Shade with today’s “Moment from God’s Word”.
Message – Have you ever noticed that the importance we place on a message, has a direct relation to the importance of the messenger? Suppose you are driving along on a blissful day and your wife notices that you are exceeding the speed limit, and suppose she softly reminds you. Are you likely to change your behavior, or ignore the warning? Maybe she, or one of the children remind you again . . . same reaction? And then suppose you suddenly hear the unmarked car behind you turn on its siren and flash a blue light from the grill. Now my question – will that change your behavior? So what was the difference – it was the same message – but oh, you say, it was the difference in the importance of the messenger.
The book of Hebrews begins with these words, “In the past God spoke to our ancestors many times and in many ways through the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us through his Son.” The point the writer is about to make is this – if what the prophets said was important, how much more important is it when the message comes through God’s own Son? The message is the same, but the importance of the Messenger should be enough to cause us to change our behavior.
